KA-BAR sheath...
« on: July 30, 2015, 02:13:00 PM »
Hello all, I've been rebuilding/remodeling my shop and house and haven't been in the game for the last several months. It's never dissapointing to log on here though and see the greatness this forum holds. I am pretty small potatoes to the tallent here but it's way cool getting to participate here..

One of the coolest and most iconic knives of all time is the USMC KA-BAR.. Their sheaths leave a lot to be desired though. My mom is heavily involved with the national VFW program and I am donating this piece to her local post for their next fundraiser. I got the knife off a local buy, sell, trade classifieds for pretty cheap compared to retail price and as weird as it seems I don't think I deserve to own it. I never wanted to give the hint that I was trying to steal valor. I was pretty happy with how it turned out and didn't incorporate the USMC logo because I didn't want people to not bid on it if they felt the same way I do.

I wanted to make it versatile and be able to attach to different web gear without using any plastic so I made the loop bolt on.

Just thought I would do a little build along of the sheath.

Knife with original sheath

Design and draft pattern for stencil.

Pattern on leather.

Getting everything lined up.

All died and ready for assembly.

Test fit like a glove.

Finished product.

I'm still learning the work and 100% self taught so constructive critique is absolutely welcome.

Thanks,

Todd

Beautiful sheath. It enhances the simplistic design and function of the utilitarian KA-Bar. Well done.

Very nice. The thing I really like about double guards is that you can put a retaining strap on the top where it won't get cut when the knife is pulled out.
