How to finish sheep horn handles
« on: January 15, 2016, 01:33:00 PM »
I'm finishing my first forged knife and I have used sheep horn on the handle. What is the best way or finish to put on the sheep horn?

What type of handle is it? Full tang?

Lin, it is a full tang handle. I've epoxied the handle slabs on and going to install brass pins. I was just wondering what folks put on the handles as a finish.

I lightly buff it and that's it. It worked fine for the sheep. Treat it sort of like your finger nail. But don't bite it. Over time, wipe with mineral oil to keep it hydrated.
