ESEE 5 Custom Sheath.
« on: August 21, 2016, 06:02:00 PM »
I don't really do a lot of custom sheath work for knives that aren't mine but I wanted to try my hand at making a scout carry sheath for a very heavy duty knife.

I've come to really like the stitched pouch style sheaths. They retain very well with no strap to cut or to wear out. Belt loops are also a weak point on these types of sheaths with heavy knives so I made those easily replaceable and different styles of belt loops can also be made for it for different types of carry.

I placed the Chicago screws closest to the handle so they help really lock the knife in place yet the knife is easy to re-sheath. I don't think it's going to be an issue but if the sheath gets too loose overtime, a retention system can easily be added so a lanyard can really lock the knife in. As for now, very vigorous upside down shaking will not budge the knife.

After making this sheath and talking this sheath's options over with the customer, he decided he wanted to upgrade it so I added the tooled shield and a belt loop for vertical left hand carry. I think it turned out pretty neat and now he has lot's of options.

The sheath set up for scout carry with the shield added.

Thanks for looking, Critique is always welcome.

Nice work Todd. That's a great idea using the screws instead of rivets for easy replacement of the loops.
