Kalamazoo and Black Widow...augh!

Ever since I changed the string on my longbow, my arrows aren't flying well. I think I need to raise the brace height some more but I can't find the specs for my bow. Is it normally about 7 in. of brace height for a longbow? Does half an inch make that much differance?
Shot a Black Widow recurve at Kalamazoo that shot my arrows beautifully. $1130.00. Now I can't stop thinking about it!!!

check out their website. They don't put the brace height in the owner's manual, they use the catalog and website. Never could understand why it wasn't put in the manual as well. Anyway, they say 7 to 7.75 for their longbow. That said, yes, I believe half inch can make a huge difference...Mike

Just wanted to add that the recurve I shot was a shorter one piece with curly babinga limbs and riser, 42lbs at my draw. Beautiful, felt good in my hand, and shot two inch groups exactly where I was looking.

b.glass, I feel your pain. I shot a pax 42lb with bolivian rosewood all 3 days at the expo. Late sunday I broke down and went over to toby and bought it. It's by far the prettiest bow I own. Not a bad shooter either. Don

I bought the 56" 56lb PAX bacote they were going to take this weekend. Had them unload it from the truck to ship it to me. Once I saw the photos they sent me, I just had to have it.
Sure hope it shoots as good as it looks.

I was checking the bw's out this past weekend at the United Bowhunters of Missouri Festival. They are a little steep for me but you couldn't ask for nicer people.

Looks like you made a $1130 dollar mistake by shooting that bow. I keep looking at the PA's in the catalog. I want one.....bad. But will probably have to keep shooting the PSA for a while.

At what distance did you shoot the Widder? I have bought two bows at shows that shot Robin Hood groups at the 15-yard indoor ranges, but didn't hold up at hunting distances. No reason your dream Widow won't be a winner; just something to consider.

I have shot some widows at 9&1/2" of brace height. Whatever it takes, ya know?

It could be your brace height or the string. if the string is of a different type or has more or less strands it could make a difference. I would shoot 200 or 300 arrows and see if it simply needs to break in.

I have the brace height up to just over seven inches now and it shot a heck of alot better. Makes it easier to resist that beautiful Black Widow recurve...I think. I don't know why I don't think about the brace height as the problem sooner! Will try to shoot through paper next. Thanks for the help and understanding.

Oh, wanted to answer Dave's question. I think I heard that the distance at the try out ranges was about 11 yards. And I too wondered how they would shoot out a bit farther.
