Can I use burnt motor oil to quench an experimental knife blade. Or what would you guys suggest.

Thanks

I recommend against transmission fluid, burnt or unburnt motor oil, and other home brew concoctions.

The difficulty is the quench media like that are either too slow or too fast...and you don't know which without some serious testing.

You'll end up with unhardened blades most of the time, in my experience trying to cheap out on quench media.  And don't even think about water.

You'd get much better results from your local farm store by grabbing some vet grade mineral oil. Warm it up to about 130 degrees.
