Vine Maple Pig Slayer!
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:30:00 PM »
Finished this one yesterday--from 2 separate billets that had never met; but both from the top side

Draws 52#@28--exactly what I like!

60" long, amazingly quiet-no silencers-D97 string, and shoots like a dream!

Maybe I can get Adam to take a full draw pic after school today and post that later.

The stain is Rit dye mixed with alcohol and water, then Tru Oil over that. Need to tone it all down a bit to take into the woods.

Great bow, Bjorn!!! The color and design work is perfect for a hunting bow...and not so bad for folks to look at either. Can't wait for the full draw pic. Is this one you built with John?     Pat

Good looking bow Bjorn,  How does it compare with the other selfbows you've built recently as far as cast, how smooth, hand shock etc.  I see you're shooting some Sweetlands out of it so it must shoot a heavy arrow okay.

I have a VM stave, but know nothing about it.  Did you just use the outside layer as the back?  I'm guessing it's like hichory and doesnt need backing, correct?

Osage probably has better cast all things being equal; but the VM is smoother-to me. You do not need backing, outside becomes the back. I would get the bow bending throughout and make it shorter than longer. Mine is 60" and you could go shorter.
