take down longbow's
« on: September 13, 2008, 06:26:00 AM »
I am planning on introducing a take down longbow to my line of laminated fiberglass bows.
I am familiar with the bow bolt (had another bowyers bow explode in my hand with one in it. It was the bowyers fault though) have shot the hinge about 5 times, have seen the steel and brass sleeves, the bevel lock, and the talon systems in print but never up close.
I also own 4 Black Widow locket socket systems from 77#'s to 90#'s which are fantastic.
I think that the locket socket system is the way to go unless someone knows of an easier system to install.
I have no interest in a three piece line of bows. I think they are fine for the recurve guys, but personally don't like them for longbows.
If anyone knows of a really good system, I would apreciate the help.

Thanks, Big Jim's Bow Co.

Jim, Contact Mike Treadway. He has 3 or 4 different takedown systems he has invented. One is the system that Tomahawk bow uses. Simple but very effective.   Mike's phone number is 828-683-8728. Mike does not have a web site.   Pat

The last issue of the Bowyers Journal (sponsor) had a teaser about the fiberglass system - the one BW uses now but it did not have a how to. I believe it is basically a fiberglass wrap with release agent on one piece so it will slide apart after drying, the fiberglass is then shaped for a grip.

Primitive Archer had a tutorial on the system Blackwidow is now using. I am still in TX working so I can't look up the issue but it was four or five year ago.  Seems real easy to do. Bob Barnes from Arkansas had a bow he did this too at MOJAM 2 years ago and the system worked great.
