Mid Alantic Hog hunting
« on: February 05, 2008, 02:18:00 PM »
I have been getting the itch to get after a pig. I live in Maryland and don't know of any wild pigs to hunt around here. Anyone got a pig hunting spot anywhere close by? Listing any fees to hunt them will be handy in the planing of a trip also.

There is an island off the coast of VA/NC border that has hogs.
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

Which island? I live in northeast NC (Hertford and Gates counties), and I drive to Va. Beach every day. I know NC has an open season on hogs, and would love a chance to poke at one this close to home. Not sure about VA's rules, though.

There are no hogs, as far as I know, in my corner of the Dismal Swamp (somebody correct me, please!).

My memory is failing, but I think it has Black in the name.  I believe it's a quota hunt though.  Check the state regs and you should find something.  It may be in NC regs.

NC regulates wild hog hunting but only in a handful of counties (mountains IIRC), the rest are considered ferel and are not regulated.  Make sure you check before heading out to your destination.

The VA hunt is Backbay Wildlife Refuge and shotgun only.

Well, shoot. Was hoping for some spring and summer action here at home.

I saw an area that was torn up by hogs north of Currituck light a couple of weeks ago.
Doesn't Tyrell Co. have them, too? Alligator Wildlife Refuge or Pocosin?(sp?)
Happy trails....   ('till we meet again, Dale Evans Rogers)
