kennym......I need help.
« on: January 25, 2009, 10:09:00 PM »
Kenny,

I just glued op my first R/D longbow ever this weekend.  I layed it out and narrowed the limbs.  Bottom limb is perfect.  It has no twist at all.  The top limb has a slight amount.  I have a feeling I must have been off just a little when I centered the upper limb (when strung and sighting down the string at the belly of the bow).

However I left my limb tips wide enough that I could cut one nock groove a little deeper and "relocate" the center of the limb if that makes sense.

My question is:  Now I have one nock considerably deeper than the other.  Can I take off the neccessary material (on the deep nock side) to "even up" the limb or will this hurt what I have accomoplished?  It's pretty straight now....but looks kind of dorky.

I hope that jibberish made some sense.

If anyone else has anything to add feel free to jump in.

Thanks, Mike

Slowly remove wood from the side that you deepened the nock on.  It will increase the effect of deepening the nock. You may be able to minimize or eliminate the out of balance look you are talking about.  I use a tillering stick that is 18 inches long to look at how the limbs are pulling.  If there is any twist in the limb this is where it will be the most visible.

Thanks Pete.  I was hoping you would say that.  Deepening the nock just about made it perfect but it still needs just a touch more and i think removing the wood from the deepend nock side may just be what brings it inline.
