Can this be fixed??
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:05:00 PM »
I was working on a BBO and had it tillered to 24" and was shooting it in when i noticed this. It goes all the way down to the bamboo lam on the side view and about an inch across. I highlighted it in the picture with a pencil for a better view. Thanks for any help!

You could try supergluing the crack and then wrapping it real tight with rawhiden and glue but I imagine it may not hold.
Someone with more experience can probably give you better advise.

That's what I would try...super glue and a wrap; probably sinew wrap. Do you have a boo core also(tri-lam) or is your boo backing that thick?
Is there a purpose for the abrupt end of the riser? Blending that into the limb might give you a smoother bend into the fades.

I don't think it will hold with just glue or a wrap.

I would look to strengthen that area by cutting off your handle and adding a longer fade piece that will cover the crack.

Just by looking at your construction, I'd say the bow was hinging there and that's what caused your problem.

One of these will fix it but you need to tiller  the cracked area to bend only slightly.

Thanks for the info guys.

Pat, I hadn't really shaped the riser much i just cut some of the bulk off and hadn't blended it into the limbs yet. Yes there is also a bamboo lam in there my bamboo backing isn't that thick.
