In a lam bow, where would you prefer to use mesquite, lams or riser?

Ooooh...Mr. funny guy! lol
How bout it? I know some of you out there have tried it. What did ya think? I've got a feeling it would work well in the handle although a bit light, but it does seem pretty dense too.
Would it make a good core lam?

My vote is for the smoker also, but under glass it is awesome to look at. very porous so watch your glue-up.

If you find a piece of mesquite straight enough and long enough it will make a very good self bow. If not, cut limb veneers or riser blocks from it.

I wish I had the patience for a selfbow....I think I'll stick with smaller pieces and glue for now. Off to the saw we go!

I have a Morrison Shawnee with Mesquite riser and love it. It's mesquite with a matching flare and 1/2 pinecone carving on grip. I have several high end bows and this one and my 2 piece Griffin are my favorites. I think this was Bob's first bow with a riser of this wood and was told he had only made one other

I have used it a couple of risers and it looks great altho a bit light. I love it in limbs. Looks good and shoots great. Have probably used it in 10 or 15 bows. Use plenty of glue and spend a little extra time filling the edges.

Thanks for the input guys. I knew you would come through for me and prove I wasn't crazy....well not too crazy anyway.
The local wood shop has a bunch on sale at half price and it's got some nice looking grain to it. I made a couple risers and they are a bit light for me though. I think I'll shave off some lams and see how it goes.
