first glass bow
« on: March 30, 2009, 02:35:00 AM »
Got to build a recurve at a friends shop. I've made a few self bows but this is my first glass or laminated one of any kind. 62" recurve. 57# @ 30. It's osage from a tree I cut on my grandad's land which my dad now owns. other wood is wenge with thin maple and bloodwood accents with a large brazillian cherry stripe. Brown glass on back and clear over some hickory that I liked. I've got the bug and already making plans for my next one.
Not the best pics since the are inside but I'll get more when I take it for a walk.
(yes it's left handed not backwards pics  :)

Thanks guys. Yeah, I almost couldn't finish it because I want to start the next one. Have to fend off the divorce for a few weeks then I'll try again    :saywhat:
I've got ideas for another recurve with some changes to the grip and I have some osage that is drying for a go at at a "real" self bow. Did board bows before. Oh yeah, going to try one with bamboo back too.

You did good Russ! Hope mine turns out as nice. Really like the osage connection to your grand dad's farm.

Nice rig.
Now then, get your weapons ~ your quiver and bow ~ and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27.3

Yeah it was / is Brock. Snag is just taking more and better pics than me. His is going to be awesome looking. Steve finished up his shop several months ago and I couldn't stay away any longer. Think I'll try to build something like you had at the banquet next but who knows.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

What I've found is I get to "the shop" and am so ready and excited to get going on the bow I've either forgotten the camera or I forget to stop and take a picture....I guess that is a good thing in a way.
