New bow finished.....arrow rack too.
« on: April 25, 2009, 12:29:00 PM »
I just finished my latest longbow, thought I would show you guys and also note the things I learned from you guys over the past year and how I applied them to this bow.

This is a 68" R/D longbow (rough form pictured below).  1.5" wide at fades, 47# @ 28".  Bubinga riser with maple/white glass accent.  The limbs are bubinga under clear glass, white accent stripe and maple S/A cores.

I built the form using a half template and a router, learned from Kenny's website.  Also used a stripe in the tip overlays (something I learned from Kenny too)..I used TB finish and frosted the last coat, something I learned from Apex.  I finially know how to make thin tips...something I learned from all of you guys. And used smooth on for all of my overlays (rather than CA or 5 min) which helped ensure a seamless transition (somthing i learned just recently from you guys).  It is certainly the best shooting longbow I have made to date.

Man, that's awesome!  Great job on that one.

Any more pics?  Full draw maybe?  :)

Also, (might be in the wrong forum here)...just made an arrow rack...because my 5 gallon bucket was getting full..and i never really had a good place to put my arrows with broadheads glued on.

I got about $35 worth of Santos Mahagony..used 1 1/4" slabs for the top and bottom. Used terrible jointery techniques...purpleheart plugs, 1 coat of shellac, 3 thin coats of satin poly.  Still need to follow up with a coat of wax.

Holds 98

I cut some cork gasket with a spent 45 cal shell, then hot glued those in the countersunk holes in the bottom.

Nice bend, great tiller!! I made a d/r that bent too much at the fades,it was a dawg compared to the one that bends throughout the limb.

Nice rack! Always wanted to say that without gettin beat up!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Yeah...sorry for no build along on that longbow...thank you all for the nice comments, i appreciate it.

and of course the arrow rack has to go in the basement with the other archery equipment...somehow every time i put a bow or an arrow on the fireplace mantle they magically find themselves in the basement a few days after...

Yep, that rack is a pretty one for sure.  I'd hate to have to grab some broadhead tipped ones in a hurry though!  :)
