« on: May 28, 2009, 11:27:00 PM »

Just finished this up ready made out of red elm. Wish the pics showed how nice the lams really looked. Thanks Kenny!

Sorry tried to edit the "ready" out of the thread but said mods could only do this! I thought you could edit posts here, is that a recent change?

LC,

Nice looking bow!  Specs?

That red elm looks great.  Did you stain them or is that natural.

Well thanks guys, but compared to the quality of work I see on here regularly it's just average, BUT it does shoot really well.

Ray G thanks that makes sense on the editing thing.

For specs it's 50# @ 28" amo 60". The red elm is stained with "yellow maple" alcohol based stain from Woodcrafters. The stain is really red but can be thinned down. I use it for everything from curly maple to whatever. I actually made this bow teaching a fellow coworker who wanted to learn how to make bows. He doesn't have much bowhunting gear so I gave him that old Selway quiver I never liked, some old carbon arrows and set him up completely to be able to go home and shoot it. He loves it, it really shoots great and hope to take him out soon and shoot some carp with it! Thanks again Kenny for the awesome lams. They look better in real life than the pics do them justice.

Very nice work, My favorite lams, might just be me but I think red elm makes a pretty zippy bow.

Well thanks again everyone. Kenny I don't have any pics on my computer of a curly maple bow, will have to take some pics of the only curly bow I have and post them. Sad thing is it's from back in the days when Gordons quality control sucked and it has a white streak down the top limb! The white steak hasn't hurt it any and it's taken several animals though. Been working tons of hours lately and promise to some pics up soon.
