Design question
« on: June 08, 2009, 07:55:00 PM »
On a 60" longbow is 4" of reflex from belly of the limb to the back of the nock to much? My current design has 3" with a 16" riser.

I think it would work.  A nice gradual even reflex I assume you are talking about...One way to find out for sure!

Depends upon what qualities you want in the bow.  With no deflex, you'll have a ton of early weight and preload.  Folks generally regard these designs as "touchy" to shoot.  Also it becomes increasingly critical to keep your string to center, or the sucker will turn itself inside out on you.  Also you might need a butt load of taper to avoid hinging at the fades.

After lots of experimenting w/ boo backed r/d bows, I found 1" of net reflex or there about to offer the best balance of cast versus shootablity.  With glass and optimized design, perhaps even inside of that.

Ive got about 2" of deflex from the back of the unfinished handle to the belly of the limbs. I would say that what I have in R/D isnt anymore or less than Im seeing in alot of favorable bows out there.

I have a great design/form for a bow 52-56 inches, but If I try and get a longer bow 58-64 inches off it I has too much hand shock ! I want it dead. So I increased the riser length and introduced a little more reflex toward the tips. Im also going to increase the taper by .001 to start and see where I land.

When I lay my original design out and put my new demensions over it, the geometry looks very similar.

I know its gonna take some experimenting, just thought the more heads in on it the better. Its expensive teaching it to yourself.  :knothead:
