Fox Triple or Royal Crown - help???
« on: February 07, 2008, 11:58:00 PM »
Some folk may recall my recent search for a top line bow.  With the gleanings from that search I ordered a Centaur from Jim.  However that has over a year wait   :knothead:

I then had the latitude in my budget to order a short wait project bow.  From much research I decided on the Fox Royal/Triple Crown!  I really like that Recurve/grip style longbow.  Ron can make it with a high wrist grip.  It looks very stable, smooth and apparantly has fit and finish second to none.

The exchange rate for Australian/US Dollar is at a 40 year high - now is the time to buy some bows.  I paid all the money to Ron - so all systems are go.

I have a little while to wait before I decide on which bow (he can't build it for a few months).
- hence  my question.

Which one to order - the Royal Crown or the Triple Crown.  Being in Auss I can't shoot either so I need feedback form those who have shot both.

I have only seen two of these for sale on T/G so they must be keepers.

My good archery mate in Australia reckons he does not like the look of the riser on the Royal Crown (it has one of those reverse style risers).  However I think the Royal is a bit faster than the Triple.  I need that extra speed cause I only shoot 42# and we have some big Hogs over here.

The Triple strings up with a D shape - the Royal does not.  However that does not concern me.  I just want the most stable, fast platform to shoot from.

Which bow boys and girls???

The bowyer Ron King was at our state's rendezvous last summer and I had a chance to see and shoot these models. I was impressed with the feel of that recurve grip, their quietness and good manners.

Yes, it's the Triple Crown that strings up in a D shape which makes it legal for tournament or competition use if so inclined.

I decided upon the Royal Crown for the added speed and smoothness.  These are definitely great bows in both looks and performance.

For your needs it looks like the Royal Crown fits you the best.  Like you said the Royal has a little more zip and it is shorter too.  I'd recommend their tallest version which is a 64 incher.

I think the Royal riser section is a good looking bow.

I need to call up Ron and order a Royal Crown, I "really" need a new hunting bow.  I am going to have to raise some funds first, through.

I shot his Royal Crown at Kalamazoo Expo about two weeks ago and it was awesome.  Nice grip, good speed, very stable and deadly accurate.  I shoot a different bow in competition, but if I were to buy a new one I would probably order one.  You will not be dissappointed.

Sutto, you're sick! What on earth do you want another one for?

Actually, despite having a Silvertip due to land in April, I just ordered a couple of Black Rhino longbows (for my class), and I'm pondering strategies to get a Black Widow PSA past the dear missus! Yes Sir, the better the Aussie dollar gets, the worse Sutto and I get!

Yes Ben - a case of 'the pot calling the kettle black', as they say.

This is the last one mate (mummble mummble).  I have the new Bob Lee for the Three piece T/D. I have my Centaur on order - which is a two piece T/D - I will use that for travelling hunts.  Then I will have the new Royal Crown which will be a one piece.

I am going to try and fix the grip on the T/C so it fits me a little better and I will sell all my other bows.  I think four nice bows will keep me more than occupied.

I love archery so much and the ordering and buying of beautiful bows is such a buzz.

Yes I sometimes wonder how you blokes get all those bows past the 'better half'.  I remember my ex - after the second bow I was in big trouble and was banned from ever getting anymore.  You lot must have some understanding wives or something.

Sutto, "last" is a dirty word for bow-aholics!

Yep, the missus is pretty understanding compared to many I've heard about.

I don't know what she's talking about, I'm addicted to making knives.  Well, and quivers, and arrows and gloves and sheaths and........

Well......Okay selfbows.  But I DON'T need a twelve step program.  :smileystooges:  Just an investor.  ;)    ;)

Suttoman, Just don't show them to her. Bring them in the house and put them all together. She'll just think it's one of your bows. Course' you have to have a few already so she can't tell when new ones show up. Gary
