I have been building bows for a while now and figured that I could share how I have been doing things and get some new and fresh ideas. There is always a better way to do something so please let me know if you see a better way.
I am building the bow for a friend of mine. The riser is purple heart, zebra wood and phenolics. Here are a couple shots of the progress.
after getting the fit "Light tight" it was time for glue and clamps
out of the oven and cleanup on the jointer/planer
To shape the back of the riser for a "Light Tight" fit on the bow form I first use a band saw for the initial cut and then the drill press with a sanding drum and then flexible sanding blocks
then the same process is used to shape the belly of the riser to my template. here is the fade.
and the riser block on the form.
