« on: August 01, 2009, 08:18:00 PM »
Got a couple pcs American grown boo at Mojam,

1...how thick should the edges of the boo be ground to before glue up?

2...will titebond keep it together or should I break out the smoothon,no urac here...

3...how much total taper,I'm only 1.25" wide at handle?

4...what total thickness on the 2 osage lams?

well, to question 2;

titebond 3 will hold it together for sure  :)  I made all my laminated bows with it. But, i haven't tried glass yet so I don't know about the thickness etc.

Don't have any tb3,only tb2.

That is what I really need to know anyway,it is a test bow,1 boo lam,2 osage.

Will tb2 keep it together?

I've not done any tri-lams Kenny, but on the bbo's I've done I've used TB2 and urac, TB2 does just fine. What kinda draw weight are you going for?

Excellent!!

Wild guess - 50# @28" on a 64" bow, used .390 worth of osage with .003 taper.Ground the boo to 1/16"+ on the edges with a flat back on it.Probably shoulda made it a lot thinner?

I put 2" reflex in and an 18" thin riser wedge thingy....

Sounds good Kenny, It's called a power lam thingy.   :bigsmyl:  It's always a surprise how little osage it takes to make a bow.

You should be good Kenny. That is about what I put into my BBO's I am a touch wider to start with tho and then I will narrow up when tillering out. I start with a 004 taper also, you should stand pretty straight when done, maybe a touch of string follow(maybe).

P.S. your boo should be fine, A bit thinner would be good but that's not to bad. How did you thin it?

This pc of boo(or cane or whatever it is)was a little narrow. On the thinning,I had no idea. I marked 1/16" from the outside of the boo with a sharpie, took it to the disc sander and ground to the line, leaving it high in the middle. Then belt sanded it til flat on the back.??

It is my first time,so I'm guessin on most of it! LOL

You say "flat on the back" you are talking about the "inside" of the boo, RIGHT? you left the nodes intact, Right?

Yep,nodes are untouched! It was the inside of the boo,not the nodes...  I guess the nodes are the back of the bow when glued on!
