bow recepies
« on: August 19, 2009, 04:21:00 PM »
Hey Guy's---
New to Bow building here, but I've been overcome by the desire to build my son a R/D 48-52" longbow.    Was wondering if anyone could offer a recepie for a youth laminated bow around 30#?   Tapers and thickness of Lam's, glass  ect.  Also, is there any chart available anywhere that might offer this info?

Thanks in advance....Kye

Kye, I cant help you,  but Bingham Projects sells plans for several youth bows including a 48in and a 56 inch youth bow, they should be able to answer your questions. good luck with your build

Bingham's has a chart in their catalog for their plans which give lamination thickness's for different draw weights.

People need to get a life. That dose not mean to take someone else’s, or to make one they can't support.

30 lbs at what draw length? i made one that is 52in with what feels to me like about 40# at 28in. haven't put it on a scale yet, so i don't know the exact draw weight. if i'm not mistaken i had a tota; lam thickness of .255. .080 of it was black glass then i had a .001 taper that was .100 thick and a .002 taper that was .075 thick. hope this helps

Okay, I'm giving up a "trade Secret" here but. Make the riser/limbs 1" at the widest part. (get 2" wide glass, split it down the center with tin snips)  The riser should be 11 1/2" fade to fade, overall length 49" (47 1/2" NTN) make your form have 1/2" deflex, have it continue up for 10" beyond the fades then transform into the reflex for the length of the limb and end up swooping forward even with the deepest part of the riser.

.230 -.235 thick at the fades.

Use .040 glass, and two .075 tapers (.001 / inch) the 3 Glue lines will add a little as well.
