I purchased a griz 6x48 belt/disc sander that came with a defective base. The 5/8 x 10" bolt that supports the bed rubbed on the belt because the hole it threads into was drilled and tapped at an angle.(think that would ever make it out of a Delta factory?) Griz agreed to send me a new base. In the meantime I drilled out the hole and put a nut on the other side of the base. Problem solved. 3 weeks later I'm the owner of a new (now useless)machine base, a 6 in. belt sander thats of limited use, and a 9 in. disc that vibrates like maybe the disc is a tad out of balance. One morning in a flash of inspiration born of poverty and no room for a 50" edge sander, I cut half the skirt off the new base mounted it at a right angle to the old base with four 1/2 inch bolts iron pipe and a couple of shims, centering the table mounting hole on the belt. I flipped the whole thing on its side, added a larger formica covered table and am now the proud owner of a perfectly servicable edge sander. An auxillary table can be clamped around the end of the belt to use it too Its like a spindle sander x 100. Of course the disc now faces the floor. No big loss. My new 12" Delta disc sander is smooth as silk and twice as fast. My wife will probably use it on my head when the master card bill comes. i don't know what the base would cost, but if anyone needs a cheap edge sander it might be worth looking into. Just thought I'd share that. John
