I found 7 3/4 to 8 1/8 to work on the 4 I built. I have a friend build my strings, the quietist string so far is a 452X ,18 strands with the ends built up to 24 strands, using homemade wool silencers. Jeff made me several strings using various materials. I did not try them all, I have a FFplus string thats also fairly quiet.  did you get the watusi horn bow started? I ran out of time on the longbow build, hunting season now bow building season later this year. i edited this after calling Jeff..

Shawn,

I have been usign somewhere between 7 3/4 and 8 on my 60" Bingham recurves..I had been wrapping some wool yarn around the string where it contacts the limbs which reduced that twang quite a bit.

I had to edit my first response. I had the string material and strand count wrong..I called Jeff and got the right info, he also told me my string has 9 inch tag ends. Shawn did you use the supplied template for the limb widths? I did on the first one. I went back and edge sanded the limbs in a pyrimid profile, from 1 3/4 inchs at fades to 9/16 inch at string groove. I have a 26 inch draw length and so far no problems. My hunting set up with  wool and alpaca wool silencers is 9.32 grains/pound and cast is 165-168 fps on my friends chrono. I shot the same arrow using my 52 lb BW TF and 50lb RER Arroyo I got the same numbers but the RER hit 170 a couple of times.

10-4 thanks guys.

Watusi horn bow got put on hold til after the season

I used the binghams plans to a T and had to sand the limbs a little (riser was a little long)

I did the wool yarn wrap around the ends of the string.

Shawn is off to the woods on this friday afternoon.
