Sounds like maybe a tad bit too much glue, which glues the feather to the clamp. You can get tape for the clamp that will solve that, or try to use less glue, or be very careful and apply only to the quill. I did very much the same thing when I started fletching.
Fletch tite platinum is great for aluminums, carbons, and wraps. If you try to use it on woodies with anything other than bohning sealer, it wont bond.
I know a lot of people use duco cement with good results. It is readily available at dollor stores, walmart, etc. I have used it before and am happy with the results.
Crazy glue gel also works. Its fast set up helps alot.
I think most that try fletch tape love it, another option you may want to look into.
