Just finished bow #2 boo backed oak
« on: December 19, 2009, 05:03:00 PM »
This bow was 47 pounds at 28" before sanding. shoots really smooth and has just had the 4th coat of tru-oil applied today. only prob is about 2" of string follow. Still I am fairly pleased, as it shoots straight!

Beauty! Nothing wrong with 2" string follow, IMO.

Will you post a braced, unbraced and full draw pic?  So far it looks very nice.

Looks great, Can.  Do you have pictures during the build?  Thanks for sharing with us.

I spent a good portion of the day reading Paul Comstocks book "The Bent Stick" and from all the test bows (16 of them) he suggest that 2" of string follow performs better in a well built bow.

Looks great by the way. Lets see some tips and get some overall specs.

When you back an oak bow like this one, or one of any wood, do you have to follow a growth ring in the wood you are backing ( the oak ). Just following a growth ring on your backing wood.(boo)
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

eaglebum, no need to follow a ring if you back it with hickory or boo.
