Test Bow for My Wife
« on: February 06, 2010, 07:40:00 PM »
Here's a bow I just finished up for my wife.  It was a practice bow of sorts in building brush nocks and Perry-reflexing just the tips of a solid stave (or in this case, board).  I want to do this on my new osage hunting bow, but thought I'd give it a trial run first.  It's paper-backed maple, 64" ntn, 31#@24" with a wax finish.  I resawed the last 10" and tapered the resulting "lams."  I then glued in a tapered wenge insert and induced some reflex/recurve at glue-up.  Then I built up the brush nocks with alternations of poplar and wenge.  I thought the wenge would be too heavy for good performance at the tips, but not so.  It shoots my wife's 340  grain arrows fast, hard, and with authority for such a light bow.  Also, no hand shock to speak of.  I just finished her side quiver, pictured with the bow.

I can never take a good side-profile shot of the full-draw.  I canted it a little bit again, so it appears a bit out of tiller.  Oh, well.

Nice job as always. Do you have any pics of how you did the wedged tips? I like that idea. More pics of the quiver too !! Thanks for sharing.    John

Nice! But the black looks twisted tighter than the yellow.

The bow is Sweet!
