Repairing recurve limbs
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:50:00 PM »
What happened is..I had just got an old used tent off craigslist to replace the military tent I had been using elk hunting. It was nicer to use because it was so much brighter inside and had an "awning" off the front to shade me or keep off the rain while cooking....
So,I was showing it off to my buds andWe were standing under the awning when it started hailing and lightning hit the tree behind the tent, knocked my buds down(and the dog)and caught the tent on fire   :scared:        :scared:
My Buds and the dog were ok,but the plastic arrow box I had my Pse Kudu in was melted on one end, right around one tip of the bow limb

I have bought new limbs,so its just another project, but the question is-If the laminations are solid,do you think it a bad idea to shorten the limb tips about 1 inch and add new overlays? I cant think of a good reason not too,but I figured if there was one, someone here would know what it is.
Thanks
   Robert

Put some super glue in there and clamp it.  Then sand it and put a new finish on it.  It looks like the crack is not in the bending area of the bow so I'd glue it.

Thanks Jesse
I was going to just glue the lams back together,But started worrying abot things coming back apart up there or being brittle because of the heat drying things out.
I have no objection to that Idea either.I am just a worrier.
