it is definitely a blast working with the young ones. I have armed the youth of the neighborhood with a little help from john scrifes and cloverdale. I made a few pvc bows that are cheap easy and work well for kids ages three to eleven. O also have made four osage kids bows. Pm me if you want and I can give you the help for either bow setup.

I have had good results for the grand Kids with maple piramid bows, made from 1x2 maple trim.
48"  long. They are 1 3/4" wide tapering to 1/2" with a 4" handle. I rip the board in half and sand it to 1/4" +- thick and glue on a handle and cut in a sight window. I don't use backing.
These bows shoot 1/4" arrows great.I finish them with a wipe on stain and Krylon rattle can clear coat.

i just built my son one with a 1/4x2x 4' red oak board. pyramid limb to 1/2 inch tips. hes 6 and its perfect for him, though he says its a bit strong, pulls 15#@25" took me about a day overall to build, but that included the two diferent colors of paint he wanted and 5 coats of poly.
