I found a fantastic hickory board at a local hardwoods shop a couple of weeks ago and it produced 2 very nice bows. I recently returned to said shop and found no straight grain boards at all. I then tried a new shop and found what I THINK was passable, but not as good as the first and only one single board.

I was wondering, where do most of you guys get your wood? Anyplace online worth ordering from? I know 3Rivers Archery has laminations, but no boards.

3 rivers has boards in their backings and lumber section. i get my red oak from lowes, and i think 84 lumber here sells hickory. im not certain but i think pine hollow might have board lumber as well.

try Rudderbows achery. they have boards, floor tillered staves and unfinished bows

I usually buy from a specialty lumber company that serves furnature builders and custom wood workers. I generally have to pick through their stacks if they will let me. Be sure the stacks are in better shape when you leave than before.
  David Knight of "Primal Needs" has boards(ipe, osage), backing strips(hickory? boo), unfinished glue ups and finished bows.

I usually find wood around my home but specialty woods like osage I buy online from a couple sellers on **** at a good price

Yeah, but it's labeled "Dimensional Lumber" and doesn't have straight grain. If you back hickory, does that make the grain nearly irrelevant?

well it makes it more stable. hickory isnt as bad as oak when it comes to the grain, its a bit more willing to bend without blowing. pine hollow longbows has hickory boards for 25$, not sure right now about the price difference but  theyll certainly help you out if you give em a call probably pick a nice one for you if you tell em its for a board bow. all our boards are considered "dimensional lumber"

Lumberyards and Home Depot is where I get boards. If I can't inspect them then  I don't buy them. I cut my own too. I also buy some here and there at shoots. Jawge
