knots and hand shock
« on: May 30, 2010, 12:35:00 PM »
just wondering if a knot on one limb of a bow will cause the bow to have hand shock or not because of the added mass left around the knot. ive thinned the tips on this particular bow, and played with brace height and arrow weight and it still has some handshock. the only thing i can think of left is a knot thats about 6 inches from the limb tip that i left extra wood around when i made it.

Not likely. YOu did the right things. How's the tiller? Is the bow bending too much in the handle. Jawge

tiller is good, ive put it back on my tree and checked just to be sure i didnt make any mistakes since it was my first bow.it doesnt seem to bend in the handle at all, im guessing if it did then it would have failed since it has a cut in arrow rest.

I find most character bows to have more handshock than a real clean one.  I believe it's because it is difficult to optimize tiller.  There are just too many things going on.  But they are still cool.  Any time I have had a knot anywhere past midlimb, I could feel it on shooting.
Take a kid hunting!

yea the handshock is much better after i thinned the tips, its not unbearable by any means. i just wanted to see if i could get it any better.i like the knots on this one, definitly adds character, they were buried down under the grain on the board i built it out of and i found them after initial shaping.
