Better suggestions on Rubber under PSI strip ?

Howdy all....   Was wondering what type and dimension of material works best for placing under the pressure strip (1/16" thick Aluminum) while heating a Glass bow.  I have used thin (1/16") rubber strips but, they seem to heat up and get hard at 160 deg.  Doesn't seem like they are spreading out the pressure evenly anyway...like they are supposed to?  Do I need a thicker material?  Or, does a guy really even need any if your form is square and the metal pressure strips under your hose are in good shape?  I should add my form has a 1/8" thick Alum. strip glued on it for a flat surface.  Thanks for any thoughts.

I like to use a rubber strip on the bottom of my form...Im not sure what kind I have but I've used them many times and they have not dried out.  I've also used cork (gasket material) from an auto parts store.  That really works well, but if you happen to get epoxy on it forget it.  And finially, I've made some with nothing at all...just a clean, smooth form (formica or glass).  I think you could easily get by just using the aluminum.
