Books for getting started:

  • The Traditional Bowyer's Bible Vol.1
  • The Bent Stick by Paul Comstock

Those two will give you a good building block basic knowledge.

Books to get after you have read those:

  • The Traditional Bowyer's Bible Volumes 2-4
  • Hunting the Osage Bow by Dean Torges

Take a look at my videos on Youtube. I have a series building a kids longbow and then some more building an osage and part 4 in the osage series is about the tools of the trade.  Go to this link and then just watch all the videos "Making a selfbow"  You'll have to pull the window down so you can see all of the videos posted because there are over 20 of them in total.

Two sites which have helped a lot of aspiring bowyers are:

 http://poorfolkbows.com/

Warning: building bows is addictive for many who try it even once.  You've been warned.
