The Long Hot Summer (In the Shop)
« on: July 23, 2010, 03:34:00 PM »
After my last bow build I determined to build a good belt sander.  After finishing my belt sander, I determined to obtain a router table.  Now that those objects of my determination were secured I looked around the little room that contains all these articals and various other trip hazards that have accumalated over the past 2 decades.
It's been two years since a car could fit in the 3 bay detached garage and then it was a tiiiight fit.
My lovely bride has put her foot down that she WILL have a car in there this winter!
Oh Boy...  That alone was a daunting task.  My determination felt like faltering.  At this stage I have nothing better to do so I might as well go whole hog and get the kit and kabootle completely cleaned and organized, tools and all.  Its way past due to have tools in their rightful place.  And, the thought of using  power tools without having to plug, unplug, grab the extention cord and plug, unplug again everytime I wanted to use the table saw, band saw, router, sander, planer, vac, etc... was starting to grow on me.
I'm sure the garbage man didn't appreciate all the extra cans of junk I hauled to the road over 3 weeks of sorting and tossing but finally a real car parking, woodworking shop was beginning to take place.  Now my wife has a bay for her car, with an automatic garage door opener installed for the first time (just given to me used and broken which I repaired).  I have a bay which my little suv will huddle out of the snow and wind, too.  And the 3rd bay is now organized with the large and small tools in an efficient manner for the first time in my life!
This morning was the crowning acheivement of finishing hooking up a new circut of outlets so there is ample recepticals for any large tools I want to plug in to keep plugged in, and for various hand tools that will be pulled off the shelf and energized as needed.
I wasn't sure I would finally get this done but am tickled to get to this point.  There are still a few items that need a spot to reside but the transformation is gratifying.
Now I can consider building another bow.

I've got all my tools on wheels, but in my 1 car garage / shop, there's no way a car is getting in there.

My better half gave up on me years ago.  I doubt her foot can even hit the ground anymore.
