Recycling handle section from broken bow??
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:41:00 PM »
Red Oak Board Bow Question:
I was really close to getting to 27" and CRACK!my first board bow snapped in the upper limb(on the tillering tree).
Is it possible to re-use the belly side of the handle?(the part that took quite awhile to shape to fit my hand). I was able to seperate it from the rest of the bow and sanded it flat.
What do you think? Thanks.

Don't see any reason not to recycle the handle portion.
That the good thing with working with wood a lot is possible.

That's a good reason to get the bow tillered and broken in a bit before you shape the handle or tips.  If it were me, I'd start over.  There are enough variables in regular bowmaking to introduce another.  Count it as a lesson and move on.
Take a kid hunting!
