titebond II instead of epoxy?
« on: August 25, 2010, 11:07:00 PM »
Hey guys I just finished my first bow (maple board bow) and am wanting to do another. I want to do Hickory backed maple bow, and was curious if I can use Titebond II to glue the backing. I looks like most people use epoxy. pros, cons? any advice would be much appreciated.

TiteBondII will work fine for a hickory backed maple bow. I think most wood bow builders use TiteBond or Urac glue for their gluing projects. Some use epoxies but they are specialty epoxies appropriate for wood bow building.

TBII works well for wood-to-wood bonding.  It's only water-resistant whereas TBIII is waterproof, though.  For the best bond, fully cover both surfaces then join and clamp.

Epoxy can fill gaps and join different materials so it has real benefits, just not ones you need for this job.
