First Take Down Recurve

I know the binghams design t/d recurce is pretty hum-drum around here but i finally made one of my very own.  Man thats a ton more work than in a one piece.  I took my time and only worked on this when i was calm so i wouldn't screw up the alignment or bolt holes. 60"  48# @ 28" came in just a bit under weight.  yellowheart, paduk adn blk walnut in the riser and dyed curly maple lams and paduk wedges for the limbs.  Gives a gentle litte thumb which i thing will almost dissappear with string silencers.  overall i very pleased with the performace.

I wouldn't say the Binghams t/d recurve is "hum-drum."  I built one last winter and it really spit 650 grain arrow (9.3 gpp).  It turned out a bit heavier than I wanted, and I'm really a longbow guy at heart, so I sold it to someone who could really handle the weight.  I never chronographed it, but it was far and away the fastest traditional bow I've personally shot.

Take downs are much more of a challenge than a one piece.  Makes one understand why the professionals charge so much more for a take down.

I haven't dyed any limbs they look great. How is the best way to dye lams? Thanks Tony

i use transtint that i buy at woodcraft.  it mixes well with alcohol and they have a dozen colors to choose from.  i usually use the amber color, it gives the appearance of new osage without turning bronze.  but all the colors i have tried look great on maple or ash.

I certainly wouldn't call that hum drum, that is one nice looking bow. You did a great job, betcha she shoots good also.
