"ROOT" Bow
« on: September 23, 2010, 02:12:00 PM »
Ha ....we had a twister here yeasterday ..Kind of sucked ..but theres a large root from a hickory tree sticking out of the ground now. Anyone ever make a selfbow out of the "buried" part of a tree ????

they make pipes out of the burl of some trees... im sure if you get a nice enough piece you could do something with it...

lets hope someone has done it before...how bad was that  twister down there??? kinda concerned we had like 12 tornadoes the other day...

We had one go right over my house. Can't believe it only took trees and my garage doors... It was a "ride" I don't want to take again. Thank God...Some friends were not so lucky...Jeff

You should be able to tell once you get into the wood. There is no reason why root wood shouldn't make good bow wood. The top growth does!

I posted a post last year about just that.I've thought about this for years. And I've looked through dozzens of brush piles through the years with no luck.So I would try it if I were you.If not I'd buy, trade or what ever it takes to get from you.PM me if your interested.

Wow, being your neighbor you would have thought that I would have heard about twisters over there! You will keep us updated on this bow won't you?
