finishing off bow tips
« on: September 25, 2010, 08:45:00 PM »
I've just built a mild d-r bow and I'm looking for the best method to blend the edge where the tip overlays and the limb glass meet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rob

An assortment of files and sandpaper, I grind the taper on my overlays before I glue them on, makes for less work blending them in.

You can also gently clamp the limb tip in a vise, take a pc of emery cloth a foot long, hold one thumb where you want it to take material off and pull the emery under it with the other hand.

Thumbs are mighty handy to have....   :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Before you glue your tip over lays on, sand the tapered end to a razor thin edge. Then wipe off the glue joint while the glue is still soft, I use denatured alcohoal on a rag. Makes things a lot easier after that.

Kenny are you saying that it is a benefit to have about three thumbs on each hand like I sometimes feel I do?:
