What can you tell me about this old Bear bow?
« on: October 24, 2010, 08:16:00 AM »
My buddy found this bow in his Grandfathers house after he passed away. He new he was a bowhunter but never saw this bow before now.

I told him I'd ask you guy's about the bow. He never wants to part with it he is just wondering what it's worth and any history behind it. Could Fred have actually handled this 1953 bow? Was this a top of the line bow for its day? Design specifics? Stuff like that.

Joe, I don't know much about old bows but the riser on this one reminds me of some of the old black widows. Could it be the same designer?

That bow is not from 1953, its from the late 60's.  All bear bows of that era had the cananda patent 1953 decal, its deceptive.  Most of those bows I've seen have always been target bows under 40#. I would guess from the white glass, that this bow is a target bow not a hunting bow.

Those Tamerlanes were some of the most beautiful sculpted wood bows made, period.  That model was Bear archery's top of the line target model in the late 60's.

This type of bows were replaced shortly after by bows with detachable stabilizers.

As for monetary value, the ones I've seen on **** go for around $300 bucks.
