limb ancher bolt question

i was at the local hardware store and found some brass inserts that are threaded on the outside and inside  now they told me that all i needed to do was drill a 1/2 inch hole and then just thread the insert in the hole  but my question would be are they suitable for limb application  and i know i should epoxy them in .
i was gonna get a pic on here but the battiries are dead of course . an i am thinking of using 2 per limb .

thanks any suggestions would be apprec or maybe a pic of the ones from binghams or something that everyone else is using.

I too have saw those inserts at the local hardware store.  The ones I have seen don't regular threads, but kind of a knife thread which I think is designed to be self tapping.  They also look a little shorter than the one Binghams sells.  I just never could get up the nerve to try them, never thought the savings justified the risk.  If you choose to use them let us know how they work for you.

I tried those on my fishing bow, not the best answer. They are self tapping sort of. They don't cut out a chip like a real tap would. They work by deforming the material they thread into. On soft woods they might work OK, but on harder woods like most risers the wood is too hard and just doesn't deform like that. The ones I used ended up chipping the wood of my riser. Nothing a little epoxy couldn't fix, but not cosmetically appealing. I didn't care too much since it was on a 50 year old recurve that gets beat up pretty good while hunting carp. I'd not recommend them for this use.

thanks guys i got the answer that i was looking for and will wait untill my bighams book arrives then . beware another krippler seris of bow will be produced in the garage lol.
