HBO part 2
« on: December 25, 2010, 07:46:00 PM »

This one is coming along nicely(just like the last one) that blew up at 28".  :banghead:

I have opted to reduce this one in weight to make it a little more likely to survive. I'm hoping to end up with 45-50 at 28".

This one is 64" ntn and has the top limb 1" longer than the lower limb. I also cut a shelf into this bow, Havent done that in a while. I shot a 50/60 walmart carbon I refletched with feathers today. Shoots very well.  :archer2:

Midlimb. Looks like I had a starved glue joint and the backing let go at 28". Good thing it was on the tree! Pics in my other HBO post.

My ash backed Ipe did the same thing Jim. Mid-limb both sides and starved glue. Tiller played a role as well for me, but mostly a lack of glue.

May have had too many spring clamps on mine as I usually put plenty of glue on my pieces.

I just shot this one for about 30 min and put it on the scale. 45 @ 26". I'm under weight but it is still in one piece too. I think it will shoot in to 45 lb at 28". Good nuff'.

It shoots right where I'm looking.

Jim, have you tried using bike inner tubes to wrap your glue ups instead of clamps. The last few I did I used the inner tubes and got the best glue joints I ever did. It seems to put just the right amount of pressure and evenly along the whole bow. I wrapped them pretty tight too.
You can even set them on the R/D form after wrapping and clamp them in place.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!

Mr. Richards. How do you get the reflex on the outer part of you limbs? Heat?

Also, very nice looking bow.
Step lightly, and shoot a trad bow.

Yes I heat with a heat gun nd use c clamps to bend the tip on a caul. Then I induce a little more during glue up to make it retain more.

Thank you.

Nice, is your hickory backing edge grain or flat grain?

Is edge grain the way to go with hickory backing, or any other wood backing as far as that goes?

I would think so. Here's a group I shot at 20 yards with this bow. I bought a new scale from wally world for 7.50. It measured this bow at exactly 48 lbs at 28" of draw.
