Hunting seasons over, now what???
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:59:00 PM »
Well, due to a back injury i was unable to do as much hunting this year as i had liked to. My bro and i still managed to take 5 deer though. But Im just now starting to be able to get around, and do more and its gonna drive me nutz till next season. Ive been slowly working on a couple of hunting knives, and planning on starting another bow project soon, plus tanning a few of the hides i trapped this past season(2 fox, 2 yotes).
So I will shoot my bow, try to make another bow, work my dogs, attempt to make a decent hunting knife for next season, clean/dip traps, tan a few hides, and if it all goes well ill try to make my first dz of wood arras and knap a few flint heads.

What will yall be doing till next season?

Habitat restoration, build squirrel den boxes (and put them out), build some natural blinds, put in two new food plots, shoot my bows, try and start an archery club and possibly build an archery cabinet.

Today was the Last Day of Winter Bow here in Jersey. I'm going to be scouting more on some new spots.

Jack rabbits before the creosote weed shows,  scout for turkeys.
Maybe try to call in the big coyote that I saw chasing yearling last month. Catch some fish.  Mow the weeds, poison the weeds, build a patio----yeah right!!!!

Walk the dogs, go to the gym, walk the dogs.  Fix the fishwheel.  Eat too much.  Go to the gym.  Yeesh I hate AK in the winter.

Worse than that, if we all moved down south, ya'll would have a lot of competition.   :p

Not to mention, as we age, there should be some recovery time built in to the whole hunting thing.   That way we can always be in top form for taking them out!

Get ready for this coming season; ie, shoot my bow every day, scout the area's I hunt now and look for new areas to hunt, and, most importantly, catch up on my "honey do's".  I also like to make garage sales and flea markets with my wife, she enjoys that plus it's something we can enjoy together cause sometimes I find interesting archery stuff like last year I picked up a 1969 Bear Super K in great conditions for $65!

man i sure wish we had something here we could hunt year round besides yotes and skunks. We are starting to see feral hogs in the Shawnee National Forest so i doubt it will be much longer before they open a year round season on them too.
