Couple arrowset ups ( gave up on carbons)

Just wondering if my math is right. Seemed to surprise me with the total arrow weight. All weights are approximent and as accurate to my knowledge but that is why I'm posting cause there got to be somebody smarter than me.

409.2/29=14.11gpi total
Is this right or am I doing it wrong

whatch ya'll think. Am I doing this right or am I really screwing up my math.I'm also surprised to see what little difference there is between set up's. Should I be heavier or both of these out of my Fedora 560 50#@28" and I draw a very true 28". I also use 125g snuffers and 160g snuffer. I'm also thinking of adding 100G brass inserts to bump up the weight.This is just basic raw arrow weight.

Why do you want to know the finished grains per inch of the arrow?, most of us talk in terms of grains per pound, gpp, thats 8.184 and 8.532 with your numbers, light for a hunting setup for my preference.

Your calculations appear correct, you started with a lighter shaft in the goldtip but added more point weight.

Adding the 100 grain brass insert will surely effect soften your spine.

Well, I'm really new with carbon arrows for my recurve, Thanks I would like 10 gpp for my bow I think I'll get some more weight up front.

you cxan use the weight tubes from 3rivers so you dont "soften" the spine of your arrows.

the deflection of the excel are .340
the deflection on the gold tips are .400
I did some lookin around on charts and I think the .400 would end up to soft after a 150 gr tip the .340 on the other hand can probably handle a lot more weight up front.
I did a search on the weight tubes and it seems many here lean twords the weight up front. Would I still bareshaft tune while having a high FOC?

WOW, I just fletch up some tapered ash, throw on a point and fling 'em...I'm not too technical though...

My 560-50@28 and using a modern string, needs a  75-80# tapered cedar, ash or doug fir to shoot anything heavier than a 125 grain point. You can do things to soften a stiff shaft but harder the other way around. So err on the stiff side.

Your math looks good but some of the values seem off to me.

3 4" died feathers weigh in at 14 grains +/- on my scale. 5" would probably go 16 or so.

My GT nocks came in at 10.3 grains pretty consistantly.

I have never weighed an aluminum GT insert but would guess it to be 15 grains or better.

  !!  I aint puttin that much time into an arrow setup. Going back to simple.Cut, insert ,screw in snuffer, spin tune snuffer and shoot. Always seems to work just fine for me like that. I aint gona have a deer tell me I messed up on my carbons cause I didn't add a 50 grain weight or tube. I like what I was doing and I aint never heard no deer complain about my old arrow setup yet

To get either of those arrows to fly right, you will need at least 300 grains of point weight to get good flight and that would be leaving them 30+"s. I would switch to the 35/55 and shoot them at 29"s and 250 up front for good flight. Shawn

Shawn's right, both those should be waaaay stiff for your bow---starting spine should be 500 or so in the Easton (Easton/Beman shaft series is the actual deflection---not so with CE's or PSE radial weaves which are stiffer as the number printed on the shaft gets larger)

Well it seems White buffalo has given up on this but in case someone else is gleaning info from this string.

I weighed my feathers and GT aluminum inserts last night to get good numbers.

GT aluminum insert = 15 grains

3 4" feathers = 9.5 grains

My setup is 28 1/2 draw at 57# recurve with B50 string.

My arrow GT3555 Traditional XT full length (30 inch shaft) with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain tip. Total weight 505 grains.

My bow also likes the GT 3555 Expedition Hunter arrows full length (30 inch shaft) with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain tip. Total weight 469.5 grains.

Both these arrows bare shaft a little weak but fly like darts with 4" feathers. I could probably cut them to 29 or 29.5 and stiffen them up a bit but havent tried that yet.

Yep - go with the 500 the 340 are spined way to stiff.I Shoot 500 on my 45-50# bows they fly great.When I FIRST started with carbons I TRIED 400 & 340 found out the hard way(my pocket) they were to stiff.

I'm with Shawn, Joel and Ray...most guys have trouble with carbons because they start in the wrong place.  If you had 500's you coulda slapped on a 125 - 250 gr point and been out shooting pie plates in a couple minutes.
