A new stickbender and maybe a friend
« on: February 16, 2008, 11:46:00 PM »
Today I was minding the flyshop for a friend, when a young man and his wife came in.  He was carrying a 3-piece recurve, unstrung. Because the shop had previouly included a compound oriented bowshop, he wanted to inquire about some problems he was having with his recently purchased used bow.    :help:   He said he was getting string slap, not just on his forarm, but all the way to his thumb.
So I stung the bow, and found the string was way too long---brace hight was only 'bout 3 inches. OUCH!
So, I gave him the info on the closest shop that knows how to launch an arrow without wheels, talked a little about arrow choices, shooting form and practice, gave him my phone number, and this website address.  Expect he will be showing up here for some help---and I know you all will give him what he needs in that regard.

Hope he takes advantage of it!

Lucky he ran into you. Frustration in the beginning has a way of turning potential Trad Archers away. Can be hard to find answers in most of todays "Archery Shops". Good deal.
