Bow finish preference?
« on: February 03, 2011, 11:40:00 PM »
I have always used thunderbird epoxy finish and am going to have to re-order. Thinking of trying fullerplast. Any one out there use fullerplast and thunderbird? Which do you prefer? Thanks, Mike

I use the same product as thunderbird archery. I repackage it and sell it as Buffalo Hide. I had a few issues in the begining getting used to it and often thought about swithching, however it is the toughest finnish I have seen. I use crystal to cover my camo dips or would have to charge double for the dipping. Crystal is used by many bowyers because it is "tough enough" and very easy to put down in a hury. Fullerplast has been used for a very long time and again, it  is preferred by some because of the speed in finishing.
I just can't see spending all that time in building a bow and then not put the toughest finnish available on it. By the way, they all look great out of the box.

I have used Fullerplast for years and really like it It took me a little practice at first but the results are worth it.  I use the flat finish and the only problem is that the handle will become glossy after it has been used for a while.  I have got to putting leather handles on my bows and that fixed that problem.

I used T-bird for years then the QC started to suffer so I switched to Crystal and it takes a beating very well. A new product by General Finishes called Enduro is testing well too and it's a water based finish. I like the General and the Crystal better than the T-Bird, they stay really clear, the epoxy yellows over time. I refinished a Blue Dymondwood handled bow once, it was 3 years old at the time and the customer just wanted to drop a few pounds, when I sent the blue bows out they were a really bright blue, this one was more of a green shade when I got it back due to the yellowing.
