over backing a lam bow?

Hi,

I hear about overpowering the belly by using too thick of backing.

Would using a .03 glass+.02 carbon back (carbon under glass) back with say a .04 glass belly be a problem? using action boo as a core.

What about the same back with a .02 glass belly for instance.

I see wood backed with glass bows with no belly lam.

I guess I don't understand how you can overpower the belly...or what happens when you do.

I'd really appreciate some help understanding this.

Glass is stronger in compression than tension. I would go .040 on the belly glass .030 on the back without carbon. I don't what effect carbon would have in the stack thickness but it will be more than glass of the same thickness.

Do things crack or break if the back or belly is stronger than the other?

Generally speaking the back cracks / breaks with too much tension or the belly crushes with too much compression.  

Glass can stand an awful lot of tension or compression.  It's not idiot proof but close to it.
