Lets see your forms
« on: February 14, 2011, 02:10:00 PM »
I am thinking of the future and wanting to build a form for a bows.  I am sure there are multiple types of forms for different style builds.  Let see them all and maybe a pic of a bow that was made from it.

Thank You
Matt

I was just reading that thread.  I like the dowel and tube method.

I have a complete form build along for my aluminum channel straight longbow forms on my web site:

 http://dickwightman.com/archeryactivity/bowbuilding/buidlingform/buildingform.html

I build mostly straight traditional longbows, and these forms work very well for them.

I've been experimenting with some longbows that are string follow or reflex, and i have a double form that handles that:

Mine is untested so far. We will see how it does. I took some of the deflex out by placing a a wooden block in the valley.

yes,I use an oven with four 100 watt light bulbs. thats my oven under the bench,I put castor wheels on my oven and it slides under the glue up table, I put the butchers paper down on top of the Builders paper..I like to have a clean bench top when glueing..

That's some serious $ invested in C clamps. Not sure why they are so expensive?

Your right Razor, it is alot of $$$ for c-clamps. I learned the HARD way last night that spring clamps and such just dont work the same as c- clamps. I am going after work to spend that big money on clamps. A few junk bows worth of osage and I could have bought the clamps. That type of form needs even, steady pressure the full length.

The thing I dont like about c-clamps is that they dont keep even pressure if the the glue shrinks. They can slip off to the side or leave gaps.

Had a TBIIIglue failure with a HBO that I posted. Think I had too many spring clamps and starved the glue joint. 1st problem I have ever had with it and it was me not the glue.
