Wet locust?
« on: February 22, 2011, 08:32:00 PM »
Felt like I needed some exercise so I split this black locust log today. This thing has been sittin in my shop for almost 3 years and when I split it the inside was still really wet. I would have thought it would have been completely dry by now. Is this normal?

I think the rate of wood drying is 1 inch per year(I could be wrong) that log looks huge. was it wet only in the center and dry on the outer edges?

Yeah it was fairly dry toward the outside. I didnt realize it took that long to dry. And yes it is huge, almost more than I could handle.

If you had split it in half when you first got it it may have been nice and dry by now. Splitting reduces the thickness but also exposes more surface area for the moisture to escape.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
