Need help with hose for form?
« on: February 26, 2011, 07:45:00 AM »
I ordered a hose from Binghams and a strip to glue to my form. I didn't order the ends as I can make those on a lathe. Could anyone mic the plug for the hose and also let me know what they make it out of also. I can do steel, brass or alum. I am going to look at Harbor Freight for the air fitting and a gauge. I will order all my other parts from Kenny who I have been pestering. There are not many who will take the time like him to help. Thanks, Don

Mine are aluminum and Im sure there 1.50" but I can mic them here in a bit and get back with you. I think the air fitting is a metal valve stem from a car wheel. Its threaded into the alum. Ive seen them at a tractor supply place here in our town. Use more than one clamp on each end and check them each time before clamping a bow together. I inflate and submerse in water, and sometimes it needs tightned. My end plugs have a few small groves cut in when turning so they dont try to push out when inflating.  sorry for the rambling, its just things I thought about while typing

Thanks Mark, I appreciate the info. I think I'm going to run the hose outside the heater box and put a gauge on the outside but will check for leaks each time. Don

in case you don't know, the hose ends from binghams are not parrallel they are slightly hourglass shaped, that helps hold the plugs in the hose..I don't know the size, mine are in hoses.. I have a set of parrallel plugs I bought from a Trad Gang Member and they mic out at 1.65 inches or 42 mm . I havn't used them and plan to put the in a spare hose I just got.

Sure seems like a lot of work and trouble to go to to save a few bucks to me....the whole set up including the hose clams is only $18.00.

If you are going to scrounge up aluminum for free, you still need to turn it on a lathe, drill and tap one of these things, and buy the air valve and hose clamps.... I'm not feeling the love on this one bro....

Kirkll, some don't have unlimited funds. I have a box of hose clamps. I have access to the alum. and the ability to make the plugs. I might have to spend 3.00 on a air valve. So a 15.00 saving is not much to some but I need to save when I can. Don

I made mine out of PVC.  Took a little figureing out to get them to stay in the hose.  The clamps weren't wanting to hold them in under pressure but I got them worked out and they hold pressure great

Hey D, I would have thought that the heat would melt PVC. I might have to try that. Thanks, Don

The tapered solid aluminum plugs like Binghams sells and you are going to make work great..you have to remember you are putting over 60 psi into your hose its not a lot of area and even a slight leak and you can lose pressure quickly.  The plugs will also be heated up to 180 degrees so most plumbers dope would fail at that temp..
