I doubt that it would hold up with constant contact with the hand on the grip? I'd just use a standard leather wrap for the handle area and save those pieces to make some cool custom arrow wraps out of.

I saw a really cool knife handle with copperhead skins. It had an epoxy coat over it, so there was no contact with the actual skin.

I glued a piece of gopher snake skin onto a thin strip of leather and made a handle wrap with that. The bow belongs to a buddy and he shoots the snot out of that bow and the skin held up fine. gopher snakes have nice small tight scales though, don't think rattlesnake skins would work well. depends on the skin I guess.

I did one it was a small skin and I had to wrap twice to cover the handle,I was not to pleased with it and wrapped over it with hemp.I would do as NTD suggested it would gave it a little more padding, you might want to make a template first.
