Can't take the wait
« on: March 23, 2011, 11:30:00 PM »
Finally got my first new form done.  Finally got all my lams made.  Finally got the riser done.  Finally got my shipment of glass and pressure hose.  Got everything test fitted, and now I have to wait to glue it up.  If I trusted using a timer in the oven, I would glue it up tonight.  But better be safe then sorry right.

This bow was supposed to be actionboo with a cherry belly, but the cherry was falling apart while planing down so I am going with all actionboo.  But I got the boo from Home Depot and this stuff is nice and dark and looks great.  So all boo with black glass on the back and clear on the belly.

Whats the hose pressure supposed to be in the form.  The instructions said to test it at 65#, wasn't sure if that is what it should be in the form.

Here is my new form with the first test run.  Hopefully I get home in time tomorrow night from getting taxes done so I can glue it up.  Otherwise I will have to wait till Saturday afternoon.  I don't know if I will be able to take that.  I guess I could glue it up and then just let it sit for a couple days.  Its getting cold out though.

Don,
Yes it is the full hardwood flooring.  The pieces are around 39" long and about 3.5" wide.  Can probably get 6 lams out of one piece.  Or cut them thick and get 4 easily.

Finally got it glued up last night and all ready to put it in the heat box.  Then I realized, oh crap, I forgot about the hose sticking out of the ends of the forms.  Well my foam heat box wasn't built with that in mind.  So, I put it in there anyway with a slight modification.  Just bust out the end.  I really didn't think about the heat box with this whole process and also realized that what I had wasn't tall enough either.  So I flipped it over and laid the form inside and covered it up with everything I could find.

Keep an eye on that box, you don't want to see your best camo jacket starting to smoke.   :knothead:

Question: Was this the KennyM form plan?

I'm curious what size bolts you used holing your form together Matt?

You may want to consider adding a couple more short straps on on each end..... Those air hoses are brutal on forms. Without end straps, your form can twist on you pretty bad after a couple lay ups.

i use some scrap steel and drywall screws on the ends of mine just to hold the forms straight.

Semo,
I shut the heat off last night after about 3.5 hours.  It only got up to 125 so to be safe, I left it in the form and will pull it off later tonight.

The form is my design but the pattern is real close to Kens design.  I have a vinyl cutter for making decals and I laid out the shape in my software and cut the patter out to scale in the peel and stick vinyl.  That made things easy, I just had to lay the sticker out on the form, make sure it was straight and cut it out.

Ha I had the same thing happen to me with the ends of my hose.  A pretty big oh crap moment but just had to shake my head and laugh.  Sweet job on the form.
