hickory selfbow

built this one today 58 inch tip to tip 47lbs at 28 inches . flipped tips,
 
 
 
 
 [/IMG]  pin knocks and turkey feathers on the back , cherry stain. feather idea came from someone else.

Looks nice! The turkey feathers sure are different. What did you finish it with? And now for a newbie question, how do you "flip" the tips? Do you heat it, or steam it and then clamp it to a form?

thanks beetle, dritydan on PA did feathers a while back , so its not original

thanks Tim, titebond over the feathers and cherry acrylic stain, cleer gloss over that.steam the limb tips , and these i bent by hand if im not putting large bends in i just do it by feel . hold till the wood cools or like me run cold water over them (the bowyers are turning flips at that thought !!)

ken, so far you've built somewhere in the neighborhood of 732 bows in the last 2 weeks. give or take 3. what do you do with all these bows? don

Man, you had me goin there for a second Ken. I didn't know what the heck that was on the bow's back?? I was wondering where you got those big fish scales......maybe a Dragon?? LOL

Another nice bow Ken!
I can't decide about the feathers. I look at them once and think 'nah' and then look again and think 'wow'. Pretty cool idea.

I do the cold water thing on mine too.    :thumbsup:
